In 2019 Lancaster County Community Center (aka Barr Street) kicked off the first year of its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math camp by called "Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead" by engaging middle school students in a variety of careers through reading and personal experience.
With resources from the Springs-Close Foundation and the Lancaster County Community Center, the camp offered two sessions in June 2019.
Instructor, Shirnetha Belk used books, activities, and volunteer role models to spark students’ interest in future careers and teach them to make informed decisions about their future class choices to empower them for success.
This year the program will expand to include high school students of Lancaster County interested in the hands-on to learning. Students will explore construction and 3D modeling, innovative Engineering build design to encourage logic and teamwork, and the basics of robotics and coding.
